“Some of the accessories were very difficult to find, but luckily, this community has very generous people who lent us beautiful pieces (a cigarette box, telephones, etc.). And we have an amazing technical team,” said director Christine McCaffrey of the Hudson Players Club.
Dial M for Murder is not a murder mystery, as the audience from the start knows the murderer. It is rather a psychological thriller where the suspense lies in how the murderer will be discovered. Produced thousands of times all around the world, the play is now a classic. But McCaffrey was not afraid to try and leave a personal stamp on the production.
“I imagined the play as a radiodrama from the ‘50s, so voices are very important. We tried to superimpose sounds and offstage voices to punctuate the play. We treated the characters similarly, building a lot of layers to each of them. The result is an elaborate feast for the senses.”

Frederick Knott’s Dial M for Murder was first presented in the early 1950s, and that is where patrons of Hudson Village Theatre will be taken back to from April 20 to 29. The set and costumes are all from the period.
