Which slice of romance pie is more to your liking? An American entertainer falling in love with a Canadian barmaid or a legendary tap dancer falling in love with a former Cirque du Soleil performer? Since the Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show runs this week at Hudson Village Theatre (July 31 to Aug. 3), you no longer have to choose. You can have both slices of pie, in one incredible, comedy/dance routine filled evening.

The Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show is a performance that follows two show business professionals’ relationship throughout half of an awe-inspiring century. Dik (the American entertainer) and Mitzi (the Canadian barmaid) are the exuberant characters aptly played by the show’s writers and performers Andrea Conway and Wayne Doba, married to each other and on the road together in various acts, for seven years and counting.

Though this is the first run for the DMAS in Hudson Village, this top-notch performing duo will hardly be rolling into the West Island for the first time in their lives. Conway grew up in Pointe Claire as a competitive gymnast and toured with The Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco for nine years. Tired of the big circus biz, she was cast in San Francisco as a comic character in a more intimate venue, the Speigel Tent show. It was in San Francisco at the Speigel show that she would meet her future husband and tap-dancing talent machine, Wayne Doba. Out of their love and love of comedic-dance performance sprung the idea to create their own show, hence the revised 'The Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show' venture. “Our character’s are like us, parts of the show are similar to our lives to a certain extent. We feel blessed to be doing something we love, with someone we love,” Conway said.

This jam-packed soiree intends to take its lucky audience members on an epic adventure through old style song and dance routines and slapstick comedy by the gallon. Because of the high energy and low cost of the show, children are more than welcome to attend the show. “One woman told me her four year old sat still for two hours,” Conway said.

Tickets range from $29 to $34. For more information, visit www.villagetheatre.ca or call the box office at 450-458-5361.
