For Montrealers who are sick of smoggy summers and icy winters, a local Westmount real estate company has a simple suggestion: why not have a glass of nice, Italian cabernet wine from a Tuscan vineyard? Or, while you’re at it, why not buy the whole vineyard?

Westmount-based real estate company McGuinty Pepin is listing the Cantina Barretta Vineyard, a 6 acre property which produces about 20,000 bottles of wine a year. It is owned by a couple in Montreal, who are asking $1 million dollars for the property.

Joan McGuigan, of McGuigan Pepin, acknowledges that the property is a bit far for potential clients to visit on their lunch hour.  So instead, she is hosting a 5 à 7 this coming Thursday at the realtor’s office at 4431 Ste-Catherine. Visitors can see pictures of the vineyard, as well as sample its 2009 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon.

“We are trying to attract a buyer, and spread some good cheer while we’re at it,” McGuigan said.

She says that since times are tough in Europe, the owners felt that they would have a better chance to sell their property outside of Europe. She is hoping that some Montrealers will jump at the chance of having the bragging rights of owning their own vineyard, as well as having property in the Tuscany region of Italy.

“It’s just a beautiful, beautiful area,” McGuigan said.
