With over 200 members of the business community present, The West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce (WIMCC) officially launched the start of its 24th Accolades competition this January 21st. This annual event, which you will not want to miss, celebrates business excellence and leadership. All businesses and non-profit organizations located in the West Island of Montreal or those which are located outside of the West Island, but have had significant business activity in the West Island for the last two years are eligible and have until March 14th to enter the competition in one or two of the 11 award categories. The winners will be announced at the Accolades Gala to be held at Château Vaudreuil on June 4th, 2009.

Last year's winners included the YMCA for exceptional community involvement, and Claude D'Accord et Associés, for small business (five members or less). “This year, the candidates will have to outline their most remarkable successes in the past twelve months. The jury will take into consideration how these successes had an impact on the business and how it helped differentiate the organization from others in the field”, explain Marc Y. Poitras and Joanne Photiades, Co-Presidents of this year’s Accolades 2009 Committee. “As a rule, members of the jury must sign a Disclosure of Interest and nominees can be assured that the process of selection and the awarding of the prizes are done with transparency, professionalism and equity,” underlines the President of the Grand Jury, Éric Léouzon.

The Accolades Gala is a major event for WIMCC and offers its sponsors excellent visibility. Year after year, the business community recognizes this event as the most prestigious event of the year.

As the West Island of Montreal's primary business organization, the Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization whose mission is to represent the interests of all 5 575 businesses within the region and to encourage and promote, through services and activities, the economic well being of its members.

New this year, the nomination forms for the Accolades 2009 competition will be available exclusively on The West Island of Montreal Chamber of Commerce’s web site at www.wimcc.ca.
