The ‘Halloween Disco Thriller’ will be Disco Joe’s third party –all for the benefit of WICS.
After a three decade hiatus, disco is back –and making a triumphant return in dramatic fashion.
The inaugural ‘Halloween Disco Thriller’ party, set for Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Pointe Claire, will benefit WICS for their 2013-14 fundraising campaign. Event organizer Joe Ruzilo, also famously known as ‘Disco Joe,’ said the event is a chance to celebrate disco and the good work WICS has done for the West Island community.
“I was actually fortunate enough to be invited to one of their funds disbursement. They invited me to see where they put their money and one of the groups that was receiving money made some speeches that touched me,” said Ruzilo. “If I can do something to help these groups, why not?”
WICS eventually asked Ruzilo if he’d be interested in putting on a fun-filled event; three years later, ‘Disco Joe’ has already held two disco parties – all to the benefit of WICS.
Saturday’s event will feature DJ’s DoubleD, Steve O’Neill, and Sylvain Paiement as well as $1000 worth of cash prizes, including a $250 Via Rail ticket voucher, for best costumes.
“Joe knows everything there is to know about disco. If you want the real disco experience, this is the event to come to,” said Caroline Tison, executive director of WICS, who’ll wear the same costume she donned as a 14-year-old – a punk.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.communityshares.ca or http://event-solutions.ca/Disco_Montreal/events.htm or at the Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire reception desk. They will be available at the door for $25.
Due to its corporate sponsorships, 100 percent of proceeds are donated to the West Island community groups supported by WICS. In April, $1.1 million was distributed to 36 local community groups as a result of the 2012-2013 fundraising campaign.
