Bus users have be subject to much change in light of the STM’s series of bus relocations at Fairview Pointe Claire’s bus terminus.
A week since a series of bus stop relocations went into effect, the Montreal Transit Corporation has decided to make another change - the reintegration of a popular express route into Fairview Terminus.
The bus stop for route 470 westbound and eastbound had originally been moved to Brunswick Boulevard on Jan. 6 to accommodate the new articulated buses, but following a week of safety observations, the Chronicle has learned that the STM has moved it back into the terminus as of last Monday.
Isabelle Tremblay, spokesperson for the STM, confirmed the change, which is part of a series of bus relocations that went into effect on Jan.13.
Frequent bus user Julian Rodriguez welcomed the news.
“I am very surprised by the swift decision made by the STM to review the situation and that they finally recognized that this temporary measure was not satisfactory to transit users accessing the bus stops for the 470 on Brunswick Blvd,” said the Pierrefonds resident.
The new bus stop for route 470 westbound is specifically located just inside the mall’s Brunwwick Boulevard entrance alongside a grassy median, or ring-road, whereas the bus stop for the eastbound route is located more comfortably in the terminus itself.
Before the STM’s sudden change of heart, bus 470 users would have had to enter Fairview’s Brunswick Boulevard entrance and cross an unorthodox and rather lengthy intersection that includes two-way traffic in two separate directions, four stop signs and a crosswalk – which on Rodriquez’ account, isn’t always respected.
“Drivers don’t always wait for you to cross the crosswalk. Or, they’re confused because of the distance between the stop signs in the intersection,” Rodriguez said.
The STM also relocated bus stops for routes 206 (inside the terminus), 217 (corner of Auto-Plaza and Brunswick Boulevard), and 419 (Brunswick Boulevard).
