Dorval residents, and die-hard Montreal Canadiens’ fans, enjoy watching the ‘bleu, blanc, and rouge’ defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.
With the second round of the NHL playoffs in full gear, the city of Dorval is set to host a ‘Hockey Night in Dorval’ this Saturday.
The city is expecting roughly 600 residents to fill the Dorval Arena to watch the Montreal Canadiens take on the league’s best team, the Boston Bruins, in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference second round series.
According to a city official, the local team’s recent success is a great chance to bring the community together.
“It’s a way to encourage the spirit of community. You can bring your friends, family in a festive occasion,” said Sebastien Gauthier, the city’s spokesperson.
This won’t be the first time Dorval hosts the event as it held a similar ‘Hockey Night’ the first week of February. That event generated over $750 – all of which was donated to the Dorval Athletics Association.
This year, proceeds will help the Dorval Soccer Association and other local groups yet to be confirmed.
When asked if ‘Hockey Night in Dorval’ is an event residents can expect to see on a more frequent basis, Gauthier said “we’ll be looking into that.”
He didn’t rule out its appearance in the third round of the NHL playoffs should the Canadiens escape with a series win against the Bruins.
Saturday’s game will be broadcasted on a big screen in the arena, located at 1450 Dawson Ave. Game time has not yet been decided by the NHL.
The entry price is $6 and free for children aged 0-5. Tickets can be purchased at the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre (1945 Parkfield Ave.) and the Sarto Desnoyers Community Centre (1335 Lakeshore Dr.), from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
