About $70,000 in damages

The fire, which started just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 7, was set in portable washrooms that were installed next to the school building on King Street for use by people using the adjacent soccer fields during the summer, said Pearson assistant director general Viviane Croubalian. Normally, the portable washrooms are set up at the end of the parking lot, not right up to the school building.

The repairs, already underway, will cost between $60,000 and $75,000, she said.

The fire didn’t affect the start of school last Thursday since no student areas were damaged, she said, adding the fire damaged the caretaker’s residence and part of the outside wall.
