Yolande James to Open LEARN Intercultural Exchange Hosted by the Lester B. Pearson School Board

Over 1,000 students are set to take part in the annual Leading English Education and Resource Network’s (LEARN Quebec) Intercultural Exchange taking place on Friday, May 8th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Riverdale High School. Guest of honour, Yolande James, Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities will open the ceremonies along with Marcus Tabachnick, Chairman of the Lester B. Pearson School Board.

The event features performers representing cultures across Canada and the world who will be showcasing their talents to students from across the Island of Montreal, Laval and the South Shore. In addition, student performers will be taking the stage to do cultural dances and songs for all present.

The numerous performers include Eastern dancers, African drummers, and an Inuit sculptor. There will also be many displays and workshops for the students to take part in, including: a display of Kenyan artifacts, a Dreamcatcher workshop, a Hip-Hop workshop, and an art display from both Children’s World Academy and Springdale Elementary.

The Intercultural Exchange is an event aimed at showing students the ways and customs of other nations and people. The event is hosted by the Lester B. Pearson School Board in conjunction with the English Montreal School Board. Riverdale High School is located at 5060 Sources Boulevard, Pierrefonds.

The Lester B. Pearson School Board is an English school board serving more than 32,000 students and staff in 60 schools, adult and vocational centers, an International Language Center, and an Administrative Center on a territory from Verdun westward to the Ontario border.
