The Lester B. Pearson School Board is named after a great Canadian prime minister. Mr. Pearson was a war veteran, a diplomat, an intellectual but he is best remembered as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. He won the prize because of his vision, wisdom and skilful success in bringing peace of sorts to a crisis.

A lot of ink has been spilled over the years concerning the off-island school situation and the Lester B. Pearson School Board handling of the problem. It has become increasingly apparent that the management style of the Pearson board has caused nothing but friction in all quarters.

So what is to be done?

Since I expect to be a grandfather (again), in February 2010, of a child who will be living in the off-island area, here is a thought.

I propose a separate off-island board to deal with the LBPSB's only area of growth.

Indeed, now is the time for change.
