On Friday, February 26, at 8:00 pm, just before appearing at Place des Arts, Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba will be stopping by Salle Pauline-Julien to perform a specially-adapted version of ¡Tablao! for Quebec audiences. Watch as this ensemble of dancers explodes on stage. An unbridled evening you just cannot miss!
In ¡Tablao!, the all-female dance ensemble, accompanied by a live band comprised of seven musicians, gracefully take control of the stage. The first notes are heard and suddenly the stage is figuratively set afire with the passionate pounding, stamping, clamping and moving in perfect unison of these dancers dressed in the most stunning costumes. Four of the ensemble’s dancers add jaleos (encouraging cheers) and palmas (rhythmic clapping of the hands) to their movements. ¡Tablao!, which combines, in an original way, elements of flamenco, ballet and contemporary dance with Spanish and Afro-Cuban musical rhythms, is a highly-colourful performance, as warm as the Andalusia sun and as festive as the streets of old Havana.
Established in 1991 in Cuba by the talented director-choreographer Lizt Alfonso, the company quickly acquired the reputation of an ensemble with unique, exotic and fascinating content.
