I just wanted to thank you for writing this wonderful article in the Chronicle "Have we really come a long way, baby?"
It is not often I see a feminist viewpoint expressed in a public way in the Montreal's West island (dare I say never), especially as there are no real feminist organizations on this side of the island - at least none that I know of for young women or young feminists (I'm 27) like me who want to be politically active.
Also in you article you despaired that many young women didn't see the need for feminism or associated it with stereotypes. Well, don't despair as this past October 2008 500 young women ( much more than expected) between the age of 14 and 35 came to Montreal from across Canada North, South, East, West, remote rural and cities to learn about feminism, network and get active. You can see that here as well as the manifesto that resulted from the conference: http://www.rebelles2008.org/onceuponatime. I was fortunate to be able to volunteer and participate at this conference, and was amazed and the women who came all the way to converge and make change. On the home page you will see the 17 actions that are to take place this week in relation to International women's day the 8th of March. So feminism isn't dead, and I can say with some certainty that young feminists will keep on fighting!
<@Rb>Thank you,
Veronica Crespo<@$p>
