In response to Debbie Fontaine who was warning parents to watch out for the movie the Watchmen which she feels was not appropriate for a 13-year-old despite the rating (The Chronicle, March 11). (The movie is rated R in other provinces.) I agree that movies today can be very questionable and ratings are not indicative of the nature of the movie – particularly in Quebec where ratings are far too lenient. In this day and age, I am surprised that any parent would allow a child to attend a movie without being fully informed of the content before hand. There are great websites that allow you to do this and thus you can make an informed decision as to whether the movie is appropriate for your child. I strongly recommend that all parents check out these sites before agreeing to any movie for your child. Two of my favourites are www.kids-in-mind.com and www.commonsensemedia.org.
