Dollard dentist offers cash for candy

Dental hygiene took on a whole different meaning Monday when Dr. Farnaz Lari exchanged Halloween candy for money. “Halloween can be a lot of fun, but I don’t see the point of the candy,” said Lari. “I’ve been a dentist for 10 years and even with all the new tooth brushes I don’t see the cavity problem getting better.”

Last year, Lari collected 260 kilograms and gave the candy over to the Royal Canadian Legion for food baskets. This time around she hopes to collect the same but will donate her candy to the West Island Assistance Fund Christmas basket campaign and match the sum given to charity. “People are really catching on to the idea,” said Lari. “Some people leave their candy and don’t want anything in return. Some just want to share.”
