Everyone has felt it. You hop back into your car or a cab in the early hours of the morning after partying out very late, but as home gets closer and closer, you realize, suddenly, that there is a little bit of emptiness in your stomach.. But where to go if you're in the West Island? Our four judges decided to find out for you, grabbing some grub from three places nominated by our readers to determin a winner. In third place, with a total of 307 points out of 400, came Chenoys. The venerable deli on the corner of St. John's and De Salaberry Boulevards in Dollard des Ormeaux was recognized for its smoked-meat sandwich by our judges. "Very good smoked meat, and the coleslaw is a plus," noted The Chronicle and Cités Nouvelles sales consultant Martin Deslauriers. Squeezing ahead by a handful of points with 314 points was Dunns, which just opened a new location on Sources and De Salaberry Boulevards in Dollard. "It offers a great smoked-meat and fries combo for 'after-hours' eats," said Chronicle editor Albert Kramberger. In first place was Arcade Basile, a late-night eat on Ste. Anne Street in Ste. Anne de Bellevue. It was praised both for its greasy hot dogs and fries combos and its atmosphere. "There's a terrace on the board walk! Wow, difficult to do better," said Cités Nouvelles reporter Marie-HŽlne Verville. The finalists were judged based on five categories each: atmosphere, food, 'good times,' digestibility and freshness. Next week, our judges take on best community pool. Send in your nominations for the remaining categories afterward to Albert Kramberger at editor@transcontinental.ca. The categories are steak (July 15), pasta dish (July 25), bagels (Aug. 5), breakfast ( Aug. 12), sandwich (Aug. 19), readers' choice (you pick the topic) (Aug. 26).
