“When the announcement was made a couple of months ago that a junior team could possibly be formed in St. Lazare, it depended on the amount of interest from players,” said Zbig Jasiukajc of the St. Lazare Football Association. “The first two indoor practices saw more than 40 players turn out. That showed there was sufficient interest and as a result, the Stallions organization decided to go ahead with a formal commitment to the QJFL.”

The Stallions will operate under the guise of head coach Alan Williams. They will replace the North Shore junior Broncos, which folded its tent following the 2006 campaign after the North Shore Football League decided it was not in the business of operating and financing a junior football team.

Speed skating club wraps up successful season

It’s a wrap for the Dollard des Ormeaux Speed Skating Club, a season that saw its competitors pick up an impressive total of 19 medals.

Highlights included 14-year-old Île Bizard resident Shaun Filiatrault, who captured gold in the juvenile age group while competing at the espoir level at the recently held provincial championships. He also achieved his time standards to compete at the espoir level at the junior level next season. As well, 10-year-old Gabrielle Morasse, competing in the benjamin age group, captured bronze at a level-three competition before qualifying to move up to a developmental level two meet, where she won gold, while 12-year-old Julien Choinere of Île Bizard won gold at the Lilianne Lambert level three in the cadet age group before advancing to level two. Finally, in the minime category, eight-year-old Corinna Higgins of Beaconsfield won gold while eight-year-old Valerie Courval of Kirkland captured silver at the beginner level of competition, C'est Fun. Both qualified to move up to the Lilianne Lambert level.
