The Bulldogs earned the right to represent the Wilbert Scott division in this year’s playoffs. However, Saturday’s face off was not their finest hour.
In the first quarter Laval could have brought the game closer if they capitalized on interception opportunities, instead Mustang quarterbacks Max St-James and Matthew Leblanc threw the ball easily they went 11 for 15 for 167 yards. Laval’s defensive line, meanwhile, did not provide any support as holes big enough for trucks were forged, running back rushed for 87 yards of nine carries. By half time Laval was out of it.
Next week, however, will prove to be a tougher challenge for the Mustangs, they’ll go head to head with long time rivals, Greenfield Park Packers. In August the Mustangs escaped narrowly with a 22-20 victory in Greenfield Park.
“We’re a much better team then we were nine weeks ago, and so are they, but if we keep it simple we’ll be okay,” said head coach Francis McHugh. “They’re a solid team with good size on the line of scrimmage, we’ll have to out muscle them.”
In other North Shore action, the bantam Lions easily advanced past the LaSalle Warriors in their first round of playoffs 42-6, last Sunday. Running back Andrew Hopkins carried the ball nine times for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
Next week the Lions will play at GFM Field versus the St-Bruno Barons, an underdog from the Earl De La Perralle division. The Barons surprised the league by defeating the Sun Youth Hornets in the quarter finals.
“(The Barons) have something to prove, they want to stay in our division,” said head coach Jason Jourdenais. “(The game) will be interesting. Seeing these guys on film and watching them from sidelines, is not perfectly accurate.”
The Mustangs will be at GFM to take on the Greenfield Park Packers this Saturday at 2 pm, the Lions will also play at GFM on Saturday.
Football round up
The Laval Bulldogs were no match for the first place North Shore Mustangs during last Saturday’s quarter final match-up at Glenn Francis McHugh Field in Dolllard des Ormeaux as they dropped a 44-10 decision.
