The West Island based-Quebec Junior B Lacrosse League Montreal Shamrocks kept on rolling last weekend, registering a pair of victories. Head coach Peter Lehmann’s squad defeated the Windsor Eagles 4-1 Friday night in Windsor before hammering Valleyfield 8-2 on Saturday night at the Dorval Arena. The wins improved the Shamrocks’ record to 4-1.

Thierry Boislard, an underage 14-year-old, led the Shamrocks on Friday night with three goals, while Ryan Paris chipped in with two goals and an assist. Jason Martin and Jared Boudreau each had a goal and an assist. Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Boislard and Marc-André Couturier had two goals apiece to lead the Shamrocks while Martin and Wyatt Weir each had one. The Shamrocks get back into action tomorrow night in Valleyfield before returning home to host Sherbrooke at the Dorval Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.

Tryouts for the Quebec team scheduled to participate in this year’s world under-17 hockey championships take place July 23 to 27 in Fort St. Jean and five players with a West Island connection have been invited.

Three, including goaltender Louis Boileau-Domingue, along with forwards Yasin Cissé and Stefan Fournier played on the Dollard des Ormeaux-based Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League Lac St. Louis Lions this past season. Others include forward Matthew Bissonnette, who played for the midget espoir Lac St. Louis Tigers this past season and forward Michael Chaput, who played for West Island.

The five will be evaluated under the close eye of Quebec U17 head coach Marc-André Dumont, a former West Island resident who learned his coaching skills for Hockey West Island before going on to become an assistant coach with the midget AAA West Island Lions. Dumont also spent over a year and a half as an assistant coach with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Gatineau Olympiques, and is currently the head coach of the midget AAA Châteauguay Patriotes.

The tournament takes place Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 in Port Alberni, B.C.
