The Peewee BB Lakeshore Panthers are still undefeated
after last weekend's action.
They won 5-2 against the Beauval Étoiles at Beaconsfield Arena Sunday evening.
They also tied the West Island Royals on Saturday.
Coach John Calderone attributes the success to skill, but more importantly, strong team play. “I have 17 wonderful kids. They all get along, there’s no animosity and they’re always looking out for each other.”
Ten members of the team are first year Peewee players, all of them playing on one of three Atom BB squads last year. (In the absence of an AA team, Lakeshore fielded three BB teams). Those teams finished 1-2-3 in the league, prompting coach Calderone to suggest that this crop of youngsters, born in 1997, are particularly special.
Never was this more evident Sunday night than on the power play, where the Panthers were able to move the puck around with ease, consistently finding open teammates and cashing in twice during the game.
While they may have already clinched top spot in their division, the Panthers are kept hungry by a pair of losses suffered in tournament play. Reaching the final in the Gatineau Peewee Tournament and the semi-finals in the inaugural Valleyfield Peewee Tournament, they lost both games in overtime.
However you add it up, the Panthers have bigger things on their minds. On top of targeting the playoff championship, they are looking forward to participating in the prestigious 50th Annual Quebec International Peewee Tournament. The tournament is on an invite-only basis, ensuring that they will meet top-flight competition in one of peewee hockey’s biggest stages worldwide.

My daughter plays for the Peewee BB West Island Royals and was quite upset to read the following...they did not win over us they TIED over us.
