The Atom CC West Island Royals continued their successful season, shutting out the Dollard Buccaneers 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals line of Mathew Alcorn, Michael Carioti and Vytis Kibirkstis was dominant, accounting for three of West Island’s five goals.
Carioti was particularly impressive, scoring a highlight reel goal under a minute into the second period to put his team up 2-0. Picking up the puck in his own zone, he made his way up ice with authority, feinting out a Dollard defenceman before sliding a backhand shot past Buccaneers goaltender Michael Farkash.
Royals goaltender Cédric LeSieur was sharp when called upon, recording the team’s seventh shutout in the past nine games. This Royals squad has been strong defensively all season, having been scored on a mere 12 times in 15 games, but they have been especially stingy over those nine games, ceding just two goals in total.
Despite giving up five goals, Farkash was the Buccaneers top player. Without him the outcome might have been even more lopsided.
For their part, the Royals improved to 11-1-3 on the season, staying ahead of the second place Lakeshore Panthers in the division standings. Prior to the game they were ranked 11th in the province according to classementpoc.com.
