There are five more days left to vote for Canadian Living magazine’s Me to We Awards, and Teresa Dellar, Executive Director of the West Island Palliative Care Residence (WIPCR), is a nominee.

Since 2005, Canadian Living has held the Me to We Awards to recognize the work Canadians do to help others. The awards are split up into five categories: Youth in Action (12 years old and under), Youth in Action (13 to 17 years old), In the Community, Social Action, and Educator.

Dellar is one of three nominees in the In the Community category for her work as co-founder and executive director of the WIPCR.

The nine-bed residence was founded in 2002, following years of hard work by Dellar and former Nelligan MNA Russell Williams, and has since provided over 750 terminally ill patients a place where they can spend their final days in dignity. The residence is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary.

The winners of the Me to We Awards will receive $5,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice. “I think it’s terrific ... I see it as a nomination for the residence, so I’m really happy about that” Dellar said last week. “For me, it’s always portraying the residence that’s the important part. I’m just one small person.”
