With several tremendous nominations sent in by readers, it was a tough time selecting the West Island’s Best Community Pool for the Best of the West competition.
Coming in third is Beaurepaire Pool (www.beaupool.ca) in Beaconsfield. Located in the heart of Beaconsfield, the pool offers a wide variety of programs and activities. Dubbed “Beau” by its members, the pool is known for its community spirit. The pool hosts annual events such as an Adult Party and the Beau-athlon, where participants of all ages can take part in a fun triathlon.
Placing second overall was Ste. Anne Pool, home of the Rapids. The Ste. Anne de Bellevue pool, now its 45th year, started its own swim team last summer with the help of volunteers that trained some kids, some who could barely swim at the beginning of the year, into experts by the end of the season. For more information on the Rapids, check www.sta.coreykling.com.
Coming out on top was Westpark Pool & Country Club (www.westparkpool.org) in Dollard des Ormeaux. The 50-metre pool allows for people to keep swimming while teams, like diving, water-polo and synchro, hold practises. Adults can also take advantage of programs such as aqua-fitness. The pool also hosts a number of social activities, from barbecues, adult nights and a special women’s night. For its members, Westpark Pool is not just a community pool, it is a way of life where you can meet new people and foster lifelong friendships.
Honourable mentions go to Pointe Claire Village/Bourgeau Park and Lakeside (Ovide Park) pools in Pointe Claire as well as Elm Park Pool in Dollard.
The Chronicle wants to shine a light on some of the West Island’s finest and the key to the success of this project is community participation.
Coming up: steak (July 15), pasta dish (July 25), bagels (Aug. 5), breakfast ( Aug. 12), sandwich (Aug. 19), readers' choice (you pick the topic) (Aug. 26)
We will then set out to painstakingly test all suggestions to ultimately come up with the Best of the West. E-mail your suggestions – with a short explanation behind your choice – to editor@transcontinental.ca.

I must agree with the author of this article that Westpark Pool is absolutely the greatest pool in the West Island and everywhere else.
