The first baby of 2009 born in the West Island is a boy delivered at the Lakeshore General Hospital last Thursday morning.
Pierrefonds resident Tina Gandhi, 27, became a mom for the first time at 8:29 a.m., after about 15 hours of labour. The baby weighed in at seven pounds and 14 ounces.
“I am happy to have a healthy baby,” she said last Friday afternoon while recovering at the Pointe Claire hospital. “The pain you feel (during labour) is one thing but once you have your baby, it all melts away. Even just hearing the baby cry is a wonderful feeling.”
Proud father Amol Modi, 29, said his wife went through “a lot of hard work during labour” but he is just thrilled to have a cute baby boy.
Modi said while he emigrated from India about five years ago, his wife was born here and has lived in the West Island for many years.
The couple, following their Hindu traditions, said they will name their son this week.
