If I get pissed at a gas fill-up of more than $50.00, do you really want the mayor hosing us for $30-40 mill to fill up Bernie Ecclestone's tank?
Lance Armstrong's "people" say the atmosphere at next year's Tour de France had better be "serene" and "respectful". What, you want paintings from the Louvre in the World Anti-Doping lab? You want to pee in a fine French crystal goblet? Ride, Lance, ride. Then go pee in a cup like the rest of them.
Bryan Chiu hits a milestone 200th regular season game on Sunday. What does he remember from his first training camp with the Als? "I thought I had a chance to make the team, but I didn't know what to expect," he says of joining the assorted oversized crazies who were already blocking for Mike Pringle--a unique study in...shall we say...focus and intensity.
I've asked my good friend Ed Philion for a sneak peak at his CFL Awards ballot and the Montreal nominees...if Anthony Calvillo is NOT a UNANIMOUS selection for Outstanding Player, the Football Reporters of Canada need an internal audit. Chiu gets the nod as Lineman of the Year from Philion, out of recognition for toughing out a stinger for 2 games and adjusting the calls on the o-line that has helped AC turn his season around. I love Ed's pick of Shea Emry as Als' Rookie nominee. Emry's the kind of guy who has nothing but fitness shakes and gatorade in the fridge but he blasts downfield like a rocket after oppsing kick-returners.
Jamel Richardson's failure to make the Dallas Cowboys last season was a blessing in disguise. It forced him to take the fall off from football and give his fractured foot more time to heal. I asked Jamel this week for his favorite haunt in Montreal..."Olympic Stadium" he says with that big smile. That's the safe answer, if not the honest answer (lol).
Kim St. Pierre tells me the major difference in trying to stop Kovalev, Koivu, Tanguay and Higgins compared to Olympic women she's faced in Gold Medals games...."you never know when they're going to shoot." I was surprised to learn that Kim didn't feel any extra aches, pains or bruises from her session. She credits her Sherbrooke gear. The only time I put my trapper-hand glove up to a wrist shot fired out of a puck-gun set at NHL-average speed---the base of my index finger was bruised for a week.
By the way, if you're the sugar-daddy Kim is looking for? She's hoping to find a sponsor to come up with about $350,000 to save her women's pro league, and keep our Olympians playing on a regular basis between now and 2010! Got that, M. le Maire?

Lance had death threats against him the last two years that he raced the Tour. If you read the article in USA Today, you'll see that he's concerned that having the head of the group that owns the Tour saying that he had embarrassed the race, and other French officials saying he's not welcome, might create an environment where he is in danger on the course. Fans spend days waiting and drinking on the big climbs, and get close enough to touch the riders. Serenity would be better, and the road art would suffice.

I appreciate that you're just joking around, but if you read Lance's interview in USA Today, you'll see that his concerns are a bit more serious. During his last two years of the Tour, he had multiple death threats. He had a personal body guard and was assigned police protection. On the steep mountain climbs, fans line the narrow road and get close enough to touch the riders. Lance seems afraid that having the head of the ASO group and other French officials making negative comments about him and his impact on the race might create a dangerous situation on the course.
