Was there a classier move in the CFL this season than Coach Trestman giving the Eastern Final Game Ball to Tony Proudfoot?
I love Coach Carbo's decision to put Kovalev (struggling) with Koivu in St Louis. The Captain is playing inspired hockey.
How hard can it be, fans? Maximum noise when defense is on the field, hush up when Calvillo and the offense go to work. Do you really need the PA harangue to “Faites du bruits” to know this after all these years? Turns out some of you do. The Als o-line had to try repeatedly at times to quiet the crowd down so they could hear Calvillo’s instructions in the East Final.
After that emotional rollercoaster called the Eastern Final, wasn’t it powerful to see Anthony with Alexia at his side? Bryan Chiu with little his son Deegan? GM Jim Popp had the whole family? And the Quarterback Whisperer Marc Trestman? Nothing beats soaking your coach. His wonderful wife didn’t seem to mind getting wet from victory hugs.
Kim Cahoon, witness to some of the most heart-stopping moments in Als recent postseason history admits she almost lost her hotdog during the Eskimos 4th quarter scare.
The Als won the Staple Game, and then they win the Stalker Game. Stalker? Because Ricky Ray just won’t go away against the Als.
Why do the Als sit back with only a 4-man rush when they are repeatedly beaten and beaten DEEP when they simply drop into “prevent”? Mathieu Proulx played smart but still couldn’t prevent some dangerously long gains and Mark Estelle was waving a finger confidently even after too many receivers seemed to have a step on him, only to have Ray overthrow.
Can you believe Henry Burris had lost 4 straight playoff starts before the Stampeders defense stole it from the Lions in the Western Final? Burris won his first ever CFL start at Molson Stadium, and always finds ways to give pass-rushers fits.
Saku Koivu is suddenly the only Canadiens allstar candidate who looks like he deserves all those votes each and every night. Alright, I’ll give you Markov and Tanguay too.
Anthony Calvillo, Scott Flory and Ben Cahoon should all win CFL Awards Thursday night, but I think too many members of the Football Reporters of Canada are bored with Ben’s annual candidacy and look for an emerging Canadian born AND raised player. Yes it’s a fluke of the quirky CFL citizenship rules that Velcro Hands fits the mold, but rules are rules and Cahoon is still considered far and away a more clutch pass-catcher than Kamau Peterson. Witness his drop inside the Als’ 10 yardline late in the 4th quarter during the East Final.
Can you believe that Anwar Stewart's sacks in the East Final were his first career playoff sacks? That doesn't include Grey Cup games, but Anwar's a big-play guy and it was great to see him come through to give Ricky Ray some lip-burn on that XLTurf that's laid down at Olympic Stadium (a Montreal company, by the way).
