Can it really be a Happy New Year if you're stuck in Newark, New Jersey where after the Pennsylvania Station the next most famous landmark is Martin Brodeur?

It can be if you're Max Pacioretty making your NHL debut. And after the Planes Trains and Automobiles tragi-comedy he and Kyle Chipchura went through after Boxing Day getting to Pittsburgh only to miss the gameday skate and be sent back to Hamilton before even the warmup skate---Pacioretty has already learned his first important NHL lesson---take nothing for granted. He waited until after the Morning Skate in Jersey to call his Dad and touch off a roadtrip for his proud father.

Yannick Weber laughed when I asked if his #68 is a tribute to Jagr. "I wore number 7 just like Mark Streit with the Swiss National Junior team" says the 20-year old with the heavy shot from the point. Sorry Yannick...that one's been out of commision for more than 70 years!

Like Pacioretty, Weber is content with the jersey the equipment manager Pierre Gervais stuck him with at his first pro camp.

I know Jim Popp and Marcel Desjardins have been making additions to their neg lists and checking them twice through the Holiday Bowl Game season. Its always fun to find out who the CFL braintrust think could fall thru the NFL cracks and adapt to the Canadian game. It is one of the reasons the Football Reporters of Canada want secret negotiating lists to be made public in 2009 among CFL teams. Problem is...that means Popp and Desjardins have to share their thoughts on who they like with their CFL rivals.

Recently-released Lions veteran Tyrone Williams could be a big presence in the Als D-line but the CFL vet's family lives in Seattle so he may not be willing for an Eastern tour of duty.

My spies in Van City tell me that the Lions could be dropping another roster move bomb. Hope for his sake it is NOT Barron Miles...or if it is...that there could be a place for Barron in Montreal!

Happy New Years Everybody. Carey Price has a mystery lower body injury and I've got "general body soreness" suffered in my Winter Classic shinny game on a lake north of Lachute New Years Eve.

Will the Canadiens play in a Winter Classic? Don't you remember? back in September I reported on CJAD that the Habs are confirming an Olympic Stadium game...tho the NHL may ALSO do a game at Fenway or Yankee Stadium in 09-10. Go for it, Comish!
