Ladies and gents, I would like to welcome you all to the first edition of We Talk hockey. Over the coming months we will be discussing the hot topics that are making waves in our beloved NHL. Unlike a regular newspaper I will be turning to you Montreal fans, who think, walk and talk, like general managers, coaches and agents, to share with us your prestigious insights and opinions on a variety of subjects and issues concerning our NHL. Over the next 15 weeks two lucky responders will be selected to have the privilege to receive a free ‘Fight For Freedom’ T-shirt and have their names entered in a draw for the possibility to win a pair of tickets to the Montreal Canadiens for the 2009-2010 season.
With the four Conference Semi-finals almost all completed, I ask of you this week to give me your predictions for both upcoming Conference Finals. Boston or Carolina vs. Pittsburgh? Perhaps Carolina will cause a surprise? How about Detroit, will they solve the red-hot right-handed glove of Jonas Hiller? Will the likes of rising star Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf help the Ducks fly over a team with wings to face the Blackhawks? Who will be the heroes to ultimately lead their teams in this year’s final run at Stanley? Once you have determined which two match ups will go head-to-head, share with me who you think will win, in how many games, and why?

jim ben, i have to say you have a gud point about carolina beating two top teams but the series went the whole 9 yards till 7 games so i doubt they have enough juice in the tank to beat the pens althought cam ward might have a word or two to say about that. otherwise it was past 5 pm when u posted and the duck have been eliminated almoast 24 hours ago

. Hi Yohan and hockey fans everywhere, I think the WE TALK HOCKEY talkback forum is a great thing and so i commend you for this brilliant idea (assuming it was yours of course ;) My predictions are as follows: Pittsburgh will face the Chicago Blackhawk’s in the 2009 edition of the Stanley cup finals. I think this might be Chicago's year, and in 7 btw. Chicago will most likely eliminate, (going out on a limb here) Detroit in the Western finals, again in 7. Pittsburgh will dispose of any eastern foe, my guess being the Bruins, in 6. Even though, in my heart, I don't see an eastern team bringing the cup back east, I would like to believe Sid the Kid will be hoisting the cup above his hard-working and talented shoulders. The hawks and Pens are roster heavy in Canadian players (so are the ducks and bruins) which is amazing for me as a Canadian hockey fan. This is why i will stick to my heavily under-dogged position that the young and inexperienced Blackhawk’s will keep the cup on the western side of things... Pittsburgh will beat the Carolina Hurricanes. Heard it here first guys! The Hurricanes are a team that focuses on offense, they focus on the fore check so they can prevent you from attacking their average defense. Pittsburgh has a dynamic offense with players than can score lots of goals. Same with Boston you would say? No. Pittsburgh have role players, they have players like Kunitz, Guerin, Talbot, Dupuis and even Crosby and Malkin that can interrupt an opposing fore check and turn the tables on the Hurricanes. I also don't see Detroit losing to Chicago. The only reason the Wings needed 7 games to beat Anaheim was the solid Ducks' defense. Chicago's defense will get man handled in my opinion. For the Hawks to win, they will need Khabibulin to be incredible.

It is sad that Washington lost their last game. Although I don't like much Pittsburgh, they've played a great game and if they continue playing in team like that they have a good chance to go far in the playoffs. I hope they lose at some point. Chicago Hawks are on now in 6-7.Thank God Boston is gone! RIP Canadians, we miss you! Great artical by the way

I definitely think the Pens are going to take it home this year. They need to keep up with their offense, I can't see the Canes coming back from this. The score is nothing but great and the defense isn't so shabby either. If Fleury can keep the puck in his posession a bit more, that would be even better. He needs to keep tabs on those rebounds. Malkin and Crosby have been extremely strong lately, and I think those two themselves will be delievering for the Pens.

lolol dont worry about it, it happends, but hey about carolina, they rly are a good hard gritty competing team and no one saw them beat the sabres in 2006 to make it to the finals but yet they did so we never know..

yohan, fellow hockey fans... with all the depth detroit has, i favor them to repeat for or agasint all odds. they will dipose of chicago in 6 to then beat pittsburgh for a second straight year in 6 again. unfortunately our dear johan "mule" franzen will not allow any more series go to 7., so i choose him as mvp of the next two series. that beeing said pitsburgh wil defeat carolina in 5 to make their way to their second consecutive stanly cup final appearance.

im so pissed washington lost! now crosby can go on a whine to the officials when he faces the canes! i think carolinas goaltending is way to strong to let a team like pittsburgh run down there and score as many goals as they did during the first two series! the d-men are ready to put their body on the lines and they are going to hit HARD! so carolina in 6, on the other end my heart is with chicago any day all the way so chicago in 6 too.. thats going to be a pretty intense series tho. carolina vs chicago in the final and like the nhl network comercial.. this year is the year for mr kane and toews, chicago in 7 mr sharp wil play an amazing series so will brent seabrook!

Well it looks like we're heading towards yet another Wings-Pens finals and yet ANOTHER red wings championship. I find it kinda sad that out of 30 teams its still the same 2 who come out on top but what can we do? We all know that the Red Russians represent the best team in the NHL since every superstar goes there to win the cup and they'll be facing the best 1-2 punch in the league with CRosbY and Malkin so at least the show will be up to par.

its pens canes....i think the pens are going to take it.reason:malkin,crosby.canes r good but pens r betten.in the west i think the blackhawks want it.determination can do it.i think the blackhawks will take out the wings in 7 games.IN teh finals,hawks pens.pens:crosby malkin.hawks:toews kane.pens:gonchat.hawks:campbell.I think its pretty tight but the hawks r gona come out stronger......hawks in 6!I want this young team to take it!
