Good day to all and welcome back to We Talk Hockey. First off, I would like to thank you all, our dear fans, for your strong interest and great responses. I would also like to congratulate David Ezerzer and Harry Illouz who were the lucky winners of last week’s topic of discussion. They will each receive a free ‘Fight For Freedom’ t-shirt and will be the first two to be entered in the draw for the opportunity to go see the Habs this coming season.

Topics :
NHL , Detroit , St. Louis

Before discussing this week’s topic I would like to divulge my predictions for the exiting conference finals. Although my heart and soul are with the young Hawks, hoping they will go all the way, I unfortunately will have to place my bets against them. Detroit is known as the big red machine for a reason. They are well-coached, well-managed, and well-lead. The development of players like Franzen and Hudler is just an addition to the powerhouse of the Zetterbergs and Lidstroms of this world. Datsyuk and Hossa are having a terrible playoff run so just imagine how much more dangerous the Wings would be if they picked up their game! Yes, the ‘bulin wall’ won a Cup (2004), he might even steal a game in this series, but if the best defence in the league (Ducks) weren’t able to finish them off I don’t see how the young inexperienced Hawks can. That being said I'd like to turn the attention to the east for the battle between the Staals. Once again my heart is with Carolina but I don’t see them getting through the best 1-2 punch in recent history. Yes, the Canes have taken down the Bruins, but so would have the Pens. Lemieux’s team has more heart and determination than the Bruins have showed in these playoffs. Their goaltending is at least ten folds better, the D-men have more offensive punch and let’s not even get started on the offence. Lest we forget they went all the way but lost to the big red machine in 6 for the Cup last summer. I also believe that Carolina is all bruised and banged up after two long series that went the whole nine yards. I must admit though, Carolina is the team with more wit and grit and perhaps a more defined character. That’s why I believe this series will be a long one too. I hate to say, this year will be a repeat of last’s year Stanley Cup final, and unless Crosby and his crew are blessed and have G-D by their side, the mighty Wings will take it home for a second year in a row…

This week I turn to you for your votes concerning this year’s NHL awards. Who will win the Hart? How about the Lester B. Pearson? Will Julien get his dues by winning the Jack Adams? Who gets the Calder? The Vezina? Another Selke for mr. Datsyuk?

Here are the finalists for the trophies: Hart (League MVP): Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk. Pearson (League MVP as voted by members of the NHL): Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk. Vezina (best goaltender): Thomas, Mason (CLB), Backstrom. Calder (rookie of the year) Mason, Ryan, Versteeg. Norris (best defenceman): Green, Chara, Lidstrom. Selke (best defensive forward): Datsyuk, Kesler, Richards. Lady Byng (sportsmanship): Datsyuk, Parise, St. Louis. Jack Adams (coach of the year): Julien (BOS), McLellan (SJS), Murray (STL). Masterton (perseverance and dedication to hockey): Sullivan, Chelios, Zednik.

Share with us your insights and opinions on who will take home the hardware this season. Thank you all for your participation. Stay tuned for next week’s topic and chosen winners.

Hart (League MVP): Ovechkin will win but Malkin deserves it more in my opinion. He played at a higher level and led the Pens from 11th to 4th. Pearson (League MVP as voted by members of the NHL): Malkin Vezina (best goaltender): Thomas will win but Mason deserves it more. Mason will get the Calder so they will give Thomas the Vezina. Calder (rookie of the year): Mason Norris (best defenceman): Green but I hope he doesn't win because you basically only reward offense. Pure defensemen, Chara should win. Selke (best defensive forward): Richards...how many SHG? Yea, he's amazing. Lady Byng (sportsmanship): St.Louis will finally win this one! Jack Adams (coach of the year): Murray (STL)...not even close in my opinion. Masterton (perseverance and dedication to hockey): All of them had great comebacks, Sullivan will win because of his longer layoff.

Nonono Blackhawks are gonna do what the pens did vs the caps, trailing by 0-2 came back in game 7. Blackhawks have the talent to beat detroits defence. For the Predictions: Hart: Malkin- He was unstoppable this season Pearson: Ovechkin because without him the caps are nothing. Vezina: Thomas but he doesnt deserve it! Calder: Mason for sure i think he had like 10 shutouts Norris: Chara should take it over Green because green defensively speaking isnt as good as Chara who really imporved his game. Selke: One word, DATSYUK Lady Byng: Parise for his great season Jack Adams: Julien for making boston a HUGE team Masterton: I wouldnt give it to anyone but chelios, 45 years old and stil moving!

Detroit looks like they belong in a whole other league with the way they're playing. Don't count on anyone beating them for the cup because it ain't gonna happen. As for the winners here are my predictions: Hart: Ovechkin Pearson: Ovechkin Vezina: Tim "la tapette" Thomas Calder: Mason (honorable mention to Michael "Baby Jagr" Frolik Lidstrom: Zdeno "la perche" Chara Selke: Datsyuk Lady Byng: Parise Jack Adams: Mclellan Masterton: former Panther Richard Zednik for his work with the Florida Panthers Keep up the great work Mr. Kadoch!
