Station 3 (Ile Bizard, Pierrefonds, Roxboro, Sainte Geneviève)

A citizen call to police reporting an open back door and burning light led officers to a Pierrefonds house where the only occupants appeared to be 2000 to 2500 marijuana plants. Const. Daniel Maheu reports police responded to the Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m. call to the Rideau Street home and found a snow-covered vehicle in an uncleared driveway and fresh footprints in the snow.

Const. Maheu said police banged on the door and rang the bell and upon entering the house in an attempt to find occupants, stumbled upon the hydroponic greenhouse set-up that occupied the entire basement level. After checking the vehicle's license plates and establishing the homeowner's identity, Const. Maheu said a warrant is out for the individual's arrest for possession and trafficking of cannabis.

Neighbors said they never noticed any suspicious activity.

Police Station 5 (Dorval and Pointe-Claire)

Lunch-hour workouts cost participants more than gym fees when thieves broke into lockers at two West Island gyms, reported Const. Hélène Jubinville. A Jan. 16 theft occurred at a Dorval exercise facility and the Jan. 19 event took place in Pointe Claire. In both cases, thieves gained access to the lockers by cutting the locks. Objects stolen include a wallet, money, and a cell phone.

Station 4 (Dollard des Ormeaux)

In a virtually identical repeat of an incident last week in Pointe Claire, a woman's bank card was stolen from her purse while she dined at a restaurant in the Galeries des Sources shopping mall between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. Jan. 20. Const. Chantal Castonguay reports that the woman, who had left her purse hanging on the back of her chair, was unaware her card was taken until her bank advised her of unusual transactions on her account. Const. Castonguay is advising restaurant-goers to always keep an eye on their purses in public places. Police currently have no information on the suspect or suspects.
