The Canadian Asociation of Retired Persons (CARP) will present an information evening themed toward explaining how to avoid getting sick this winter -- and in other winters down the road.
The event, called 'Immunization for adults,' will actually cover immunization and the effects of vaccines on children, aults and seniors.
An expert in immunization will make a presentation on vaccines recommended for adults, explain why, and then answer questions from participants.
Montreal Children’s Hospital pediatrician Dr. John Yaremko will be the main speaker and will focus his discourse on the risk and severity of vaccine-preventable diseases such as Flu, Pneumococcal diseases, Shingles, and tetanus. He will highlight which vaccines are recommended in adults and when they are due. He will also address the efficacy and safety of these vaccines. Participants will be able to ask questions at the end of the presentation.
The event is sponsored by Merck Canada and is free for CARP Chapter 37 members -- and members may bring a friend at no charge. Non-members must pay the $10 entry fee.
The event is scheduled for Feb. 28 at 6:45 p.m., with a light meal and refreshments scheduled for 6 p..m. at the Dollard Civic Centre, 12001 de Salaberry Blvd. in Dollard des Ormeaux.
