In the morning of October 5th thick black smoke could be seen soaring above St. Laurent. The worst is often feared when signs of fire can be seen from afar. Fortunately no one was injured but the flames proved to be very strong and the building was entirely burned down.

The fire started on the roof of an apartment building in construction located at 2175 Côte-Vertu Boulevard near the corner of Alexis-Nihon. “The tar on the roof is probably what caused the fire. It’s an accident and there won’t be any investigation,” said agent Maya Alieh.

Photograph Sylvain Ryan witnessed most of the scorching battle between firemen and fire. “The flames were very intense and destructive. The condo was completely burned down and major damage was done on the constructions right next to it.”

According to public relations consultant for the Montreal firemen Laurent Harel, the time the firemen took to answer the alarm was normal. “The chief told me the fire was already widely spread out when they received the call, so it’s tough to say if a faster response would have change anything,” said Mr. Harel.
