Station 5 police arrested a 23-year-old Laval man after a civilian saw the man allegedly looking into car windows Jan. 7 around 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Fairview Pointe Claire shopping centre. Const. Helene Jubinville of Montreal police Station 5  said the civilian's call alerted officers to the man, who tried to flee in his own car before police surrounded and arrested him. The man will be charged with theft from vehicles over $5,000 and vandalism valued at over $5,000, police said. A rash of thefts from vehicles plagued shoppers at the West Island's biggest retail centre over the holidays, and this arrest may allow them to close a number of those cases.
