Station 4 (serving Dollard des Ormeaux):
A suspect described as being of Middle Eastern descent took advantage of a moment of confusion in a Dollard des Ormeaux jewelry store to make off with quite a bit of stolen merchandise recently, Station 4 police said. The man, aged about 20 years old, first walked into the Galeries des Sources jewelry store Feb. 26 just before 4 p.m. and asked to try on some chains, said Const. Chantal Castonguay of Montreal police Station 4. He walked out and then returned a few minutes later, this time asking to try on some more chains. When some other clients walked in and began chatting around 4:07 p.m., Castonguay said, the thief took advantage of a moment of distraction and made for the exit, holding an entire display case full of jewelry, said Castonguay. The man stood about six feet tall, and had a thin build. He was wearing a Montreal Canadiens tuque and fled in a waiting white Honda Civic sedan, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
