Naming the newly-renovated birthing centre at the Lakeshore General Hospital after Dorval resident Nick Di Tomaso is such a no-brainer, you almost wonder what took them so long. The longtime president of the Lakeshore General Hospital board of directors – who assumed the vice-presidency of the board when the hospital, two CLSCs and a long-term care facility were merged by the government to form a regional 'health centre,' – has been fixture as a West Island opinion leader for as long as just about anybody can remember. His passion for all things health-related has long been in evidence and putting his name on the birthing centre is a wonderful tribute to a community leader.
This is a wonderful move. In related news, part of the congratukations must also go to the Eric T. Webster Foundation, which kicked in $1.2 million of the $2.1 million total cost, with the other $900,000 coming trough Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation -- another clear sign the West Island is ready to support its community institutions when that help is needed. Kudos all around.
