The Chronicle and Cites Nouvelles are looking for a few good kids and after the campaign's official launch, publisher Denis Therrien said he hopes to make this year's version the gala the "biggest and best the West Island has ever seen."
This year's gala marks the 10th anniversary of the initial event, held at John Abbott College in the fall of 2000. This year's Pfizer Canada Young Achievers gala will be held Oct. 22 at the Montreal Airport Hilton with a number of interesting additions this time around, Therrien said.
"We're planning a gala the likes of which we haven't seen before and we plan on pulling out all the stops in order to make this a special night for the kids we'll be honouring, simply because they honour the West Island through their words and actions on a daily basis," he said, declining to go into detail on the expanded festivities, except to say "it will be something completely new for this year."
Therrien added that in times of economic uncertainty, it's important to recognize the people who are making a positive impact on the community.
"In a day and age where kids make the news for all kids of bad things, it's more important than ever for us to recognize those who are doing good work in the West Island,” he added.
The deadline for submission of nominations is Aug. 21 at midnight.
The program was conceived as a way to celebrate outstanding young people for their achievements in and around the West Island – whether it's in the classroom, on the athletic field or simply lending a hand when needed -- and we want to hear about them.
Nomination forms for the Pfizer Canada Young Achievers program are now available on our website at www.westislandchronicle.com and at The Chronicle office, located at 3677 Sources Blvd. near de Salaberry in Dollard des Ormeaux.
