Though a gas tanker drove into one of the gas pump units at a station near the Canadian Tire store on the Highway 40 service road near St. Charles Boulevard, nobody was seriously hurt, sources said.

The incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. overnight, according to Canadian Tire spokesperson Lisa Gibson. For unknown reasons, the tanker drove straight into one of the gas pumping units at the station. "We don't think anybody was hurt," she said, although she added she would not be allowed to release that information regardless. The station was not manned at the time, so there were no employees to witness the accident.

Though there was a fire, Canadian Tire did not state anything exploded. When The Chronicle arrived earlier this morning, red tape marked with the word "danger" had been wrapped around the gas pumping unit. A silver Canadian Tire logo lay fallen on the side of the unit, which had been stripped bare of its casing, revealing the pump and its inner workings inside. "Our priority is to see to the safety of our customers and employees," Gibson said.

She said the unit would remain closed until an environmental assessment had been conducted to check if there were any damages made.
