It's been a long time coming for an IGA store near the Highway 40/St. John's Blvd. intersection in Pointe Claire, owner Todd Beck said, but it was well worth the wait. "Sobeys had been looking at this site for more than five years, and IGA has been underdeveloped in Quebec for years, so it made sense for us to open up here," Beck said last Thursday morning at the grand opening of the store, located between Hymus Boulevard and Highway 40 just off St. John's in Pointe Claire.

The store helps further develop what was a vacant lot 15 years ago and is now home to a hotel, an upscale seniors' residence and also serves as a thoroughfare to the rear entrance of the Home Depot store in the Centre Terrarium. In short, there's a lot of action over there now, and more choice for West Island shoppers. "We did some market research and found there was room in the market for a full-service store in this area. Let's face it, this is the nerve centre of the West Island, and it's accessible from everywhere, and we'll fill the void that exists in the market for quality services," Beck said.

The massive, gleaming new store boasts a gift shop, a fresh sushi bar, fresh, hot food and 'meal solutions' such as the salads, ethnic foods and other accoutrements that help in-a-rush shoppers get dinner on the table quickly and healthily. An expanded seafood section and full-service butcher department are also on site.

Pointe Claire city councillor and pro-mayor Paul Bissonnette was also on hand for the opening and ceremonial ribbon-cutting and said the store has helped turn a former vacant lot into a vibrant locale. "It's been a key point in development of the area, and the store fits in well in the community. We're appealing to seniors who live nearby and it really gives people more options, more choices in their grocery shopping. With the other development in the area, it makes the area multifunctional," he said.

I've been looking all over for your telephone number as I would like to make an inquiry and have not been able to find it. I am looking for Liuid Sugar Twin Sweetener and the company I've been in touch with advised me to check out I.G.A. You are the closest store to my residence and would value your telephone number and any information you may have about Liquid Sugar Twin. Many thanks for your help and trouble, Peggy Churchill. Look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Comment online since December 6th 2008 Mr. Beck PLEASE READ On Friday (yesterday) the 5th of December, I went to your store on boul. St. Jean to purchase 3 Celebration tickets, the girl on at the counter got the manager to bring me the tickets. He scanned the 3 packets, I paid $60. and left. When I got home I realized that he (the mgr.) had given me three packets of 5 tickets worth a total of $300.00, honesty is my strong suit so I returned the 12 Celebrations keeping my three that I paid for. I found the man that sold me the tickets and apprised him of what had just transpired, and he kind of thanked me off handedly as he was talking to a client (possibly a friend)at the time. He put the tickets aside and carried on with his conversation as if this was a common occurence. I was not looking for a handout but was kind of miffed with the reception I received for saving the store $270. not a fortune but I was thinking someone on your staff would have had to bear the brunt of the loss. In any case I thought that I should let you know about this event for what it's worth. Sincerely, René R. Iga is a joke, they treat their employees like they are less than people and when the owner mr.Ivo mehmedovic isn't having a good day he singles out certain employees and picks on them that entire day, I know this because I have seen it with my own eyes several times. They recently hired a new manager in the prepared foods section and not to sound offensive but she is very bad at her job and feels she has the right to change prices of items. I usually go and get a 2 piece chicken combo for lunch with the big fries and its always been less then 5.00$ which i must say is a great deal, but one day I came by for my usual and the new manager served me and tried to charge me an extra 75 cents for the big fries which i find ridiculous, I'm sorry to say but there seems to be a lack of proper ethics at this store!
