Pointe Claire resident Vincent Riendeau performed admirably representing Canada in Calgary last week at the Pan-American Junior Diving Championships. He finished fourth in the 1-metre and 3-metre competitions and though he was disappointed to come so close to the podium with medaling, Riendeau was positive in his assessment of the weeklong experience.
“I think I performed pretty well, just missed by a couple of points,” he said. “The best part was meeting people from other countries and making new friends.”
Riendeau continues to train diligently with coach Yi Hua Li and is adapting to high school life at Collège Sainte-Anne de Lachine.

Facing a tough Lachine team, the Pointe Claire Strikers triumphed 5-4 in the U-18 A Girls soccer final last Saturday. Forward Bianca Della Porta opened the scoring, firing a low shot past the goalkeeper after stealing the ball from an opposing defender. Melanie Fournier added a pair of goals and Stephanie Broos and Maria Castelano also tallied for Pointe Claire.
The victory wrapped up a successful campaign for the Strikers, who finished second in league standings and won both their playoff games en route to the championship.
