How do you improve on a season in which you went undefeated and captured the regional title? Win the provincials of course! That's just what the U16 Lakeshore boys soccer team did this past weekend in Sherbrooke. Competing against the top teams in the province, Lakeshore won their first two games by a combined score of 7-0 to earn a berth in the Saputo Cup final on Sunday morning. Facing Panellinios, who also won their two round robin contests, Lakeshore triumphed 3-2 to secure the championship. West Island teams did exceptionally well at the season ending tournament, with the Pierrefonds boys winning at the U14 and U15 levels. The three championships for the Lac St. Louis region are three more than they captured last year.
Atom A Lakeshore Braves cap season with trip to provincialsRegular season top-seed, regional playoff victors and Ste. Catherine Atom Provincial Tournament champs, the Atom A Lakeshore Braves baseball team earned a trip to Pointe-aux-Trembles to compete in the provincials last month. Despite winning two of three games, they didn't make it out of the round robin portion of the tournament, however in Coach Ari Doramajian's mind, the season cannot be measured solely by stats. "The kids matured a lot. I think they learned to never give up and never put your head down," Doramajian said. "What made me most happy in Pointe-aux-Trembles was to see them coming on and off the field with big smiles. That's what it's all about." Thomas Gale, Matthew Toporowski and Kyle Havlena earned their second consecutive regional championship at the Atom A level, while Francis Larivière, Rémi Chartier and Colin Marchand will have the opportunity to repeat next year. The rest of the Braves roster included Davide "Dr.D" Bucci, Jack Kido, Eric Kopersiewich, Michael Doramajian, Matthew Bomersback and Ethan Tease.
AAA Lions still searching for first winThe Lac St. Louis Lions squared off with the Magog Cantonniers and the Chateauguay Patriotes in Midget AAA action last weekend. Entering Saturday's game in Magog with a 0-3-1 record, the Lions weren't able to match their opponents' strong attack, losing 5-0. Tougher to stomach was Sunday's loss to the Patriotes, a game that was within the team's grasp. Tied at 2 after the first period, the Lions were outscored 4-1 from there on out in a game that ended 6-3. The team was led once again by forward Philip Zielonka, who counted a goal and an assist in the loss. Jay Kourkoulis chipped in with a pair of assists.
Midget Espoir Tigers blank Conquerants 4-0The Midget Espoir Lac St. Louis Tigers rebounded from a tough loss by defeating the Conquerants de Bas Laurentides 4-0 Saturday night in Blainville. The previously undefeated Conquerants were kept at bay by goaltender Jordan Piccolino, who posted his second consecutive shutout.
