Lions topple regular season champions in second round

The Lac St. Louis midget AAA Lions eliminated the regular season champions, the Lévis Commandeurs, thanks to a 5-2 win obtained Sunday night at the Dollard des Ormeaux Civic Centre in game #6 of the second-round playoff series.

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to those of us who have been following the Lac St. Louis midget AAA Lions all season long that they have just toppled the league's regular season champions, the Lévis Commandeurs, in the playoffs' second round thanks to a 5-2 win in the series' game #6 Sunday in Dollard des Ormeaux.

The Lions have enjoyed a spectacular turnaround of their season starting in December, after numerous players started coming back from injuries. The team started capitalizing on its offensive potential, not only from offensive leader Maxime Fortier, but from many other such as Paul Gionis or Jordan Ty Fournier amongst others. The offense played in front of a tight defense and an increasingly potent goaltending all of which have created for a very interesting end of the season and playoff run so far.

Lions have found ways to overcome obstacles when it was needed, found a way to score the big goals and hold on the leads when needed.

Jordan Ty Fournier tied a league record in game #2 of the first series by scoring five goals including four in the third period. When Maxime Fortier was suspended at the end of game #3 of the first round, others stepped up and the Lions won two of the three games during which he was absent.

Lions head coach Jon Goyens told The Chronicle the win against Lévis was well deserved on Monday morning.

"It's a pretty incredible feeling for the boys. The players have really come together that much more in this last series, having to go through a couple of bad losses. They've battled through injuries, suspensions and found a way to win. Everybody's all in right now and it's great to see," said Lions head coach Jon Goyens.

At press time, Lac St. Louis was poised to face either the Collège Esther-Blondin Phénix or the Magog Cantonniers.
