After completing a successful regular season that landed them the second seed in the playoffs, the Novice A Lakeshore Leopards dispatched the Dollard des Ormeaux Centennials in consecutive games to earn the league championship.

The Leopards defeated the West Island Knights 6-0, the West Island Remparts 5-0 and the Pierrefonds Barons 4-1 before advancing to play the Centennials. A pair of 2-1 victories last Thursday and Friday sealed the deal.

Game 1 was particularly stressful for teammates and fans alike, as the outcome was not decided until the game’s final minute. The teams exchanged shorthanded goals in the first two periods and the 1-1 score stood up as the game headed down the stretch. With 40 seconds to play Lakeshore’s Lucas Mastrodomenico shoveled in a rebound off a Michael Stachowski shot for the victory. Lakeshore’s Jarod Boudreau and Dollard’s Jordan Zweig matched each other save for save in a game that had more than a few fans on the edge of their seats.

Another 2-1 victory the following evening secured the championship banner for the Lakeshore squad. Playoff notes: Though more will be decided by the time the Chronicle went to press, four West Island teams have already qualified for their league’s regional final. The Peewee AA Lakeshore Panthers, the Bantam AA West Island Royals and the Midget AA Panthers have all advanced and await the winners of the Patriotes division. All regional finals are single elimination games that will be disputed March 28 and 29. The lone exception is in Junior AA, where West Island ousted Lakeshore and face the Suroit Express in a three-game series that began Tuesday night. All division winners also qualify for the Dodge Cup provincials, which will be held in the Lac St. Louis region next month. <@Cp>Chronicle, Jacques Pharand<@$p>
