The Dollard des Ormeaux Atom A Dragons baseball team for 8 and 9-years-old won the Lac St. Louis regional tournament on Aug. 29 with a walk-off 11-10 victory in the final game against Ville St. Laurent.

Deep in the ninth inning, the Dragons had two outs and were trailing by two. Some of the kids on the bench were crying as they were sure it was all over. The bases were loaded as Skyler Cameron came to the plate with the game on the line. The pitching machine spurted out the ball, Skyler swung hard and sent the ball deep down right field. Three runners were able to score and DDO won the game, sending the crowd in frenzy.

The tournament was played on two separate weekends (Aug. 21, 22 and 28, 29) and ended with the presentation of the finals last weekend. The Dragons won 7 games out of 8 in the tournament, losing only to the Pirates of Presqu’Île.

Head Coach Barry Bercovitch feels very proud of what his team accomplished this season.

“I’m very proud of the boys. They are a very tight knit team. All of them are like brothers. The kids really fed off each other. It was a true team effort,” he said.

Casey Cameron, father of Skyler, was assistant-coach for the Dragons and he says the progression of the team throughout the year was truly fantastic.

“They simply amazed me! At the beginning of the season, there were many amongst them who had never played baseball. They showed great team spirit, a true desire to play improve and win,” he said.

Thanks to their win, the Dragons were able to represent the Lac St. Louis division in the Provincial Atom A minor baseball Tournament held in Pointes-aux-Trembles in which they won two games out of four.
