They were crowned tournament champions on Sunday, Dec 7, at the 5th annual Lachenaie provincial Tournament.
The Lakeshore Junior A Jaguars, were crowned tournament champions tonight with a 3-2 overtime win over the Deux Montagnes Panthers at the 5th annual Lachenaie provincial Tournament. After a scoreless 1st, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the second. The Jaguars pounced back quickly in the third to tie the game and scored another halfway through the third to take a 2-1 lead. Deux Montagnes never gave up and scored with 50 seconds left on the clock in the third to send the game into a 4 on 4 overtime. The Jaguars controlled most of the overtime and finally were triumphant at the 3:14 minute mark when Brian Phaneuf passed the puck to Jonathan Proulx-Jones who backhanded a goal into the top corner.
The Jaguars who went 5-0 during the tournament faced stiff competition in earlier games starting Wednesday against the home team winning 3-2 in overtime, followed by a 4-3 win against St. Lambert on Friday night, and then had a tournament turning win against the Blitz de Varennes 3-1 on Saturday. The team from Varennes had won their previous tournament games 7-0 and 5-0 and Lakeshore was the only team to score any goals on them during the tournament. The semi final game also held today, pitted the Lakeshore Jaguars against the Ile Bizard Faucons also from the Lac St. Louis region. The Jaguars stuck to their game plan which had been successful during the tournament and dispatched the Ile Bizard team 4-0 in a fine display of team hockey.
Congratulations to all the players and to the coaching staff of Stephen Eyton-Jones, Gary Farrar and Doug Coleman on a excellent tournament performance. By Stephen Eyton-Jones, from the Lakeshore Junior A Jaguars
