North Shore advances to QBFL finals
The North Shore Bantam AAA Lions crushed the Laval Cobras in the Quebec Bantam Football League’s (QBFL) semi-finals Saturday afternoon at Rivderdale High School. The Lions came ready to play after last week’s near miss against Sun Youth. They were facing the Laval Cobras who had previously ousted the Lasalle Warriors from the playoffs last week, a team that went 10-0 during the regular season.
Raoul Baroudi, Adam Thaw (2) and Isaiah Atkins had scored touchdowns to put the Lions up ahead by 30-0 by 7:24 of the second quarter. Jacob Bernett intercepted the ball at the Lions’ 47-yard line three minutes later. After successive runs from Shaied Sarpey-Birch and Nygel Henry which brought the ball at Laval’s 47-yard line, Atkins caught a pass for a 47-yard touchdown at 11:48 of the second quarter on a third down.
At half-time, the Lions were ahead by 37-0 and they never looked back. James Tyrrell, Atkins and Terrance Dumont added touchdowns in the last two quarters and North Shore won 58-0 to advance in the QBFL finals. Lions’ head coach Jean-Marc Michel was all smiles after his team blowout victory.
“It was a game we needed to win. We just believed in ourselves. I told the players before the game ‘we gave you all the tools, we practiced all week, we told you what to execute, now all you have to do is to give it your all.’ We’re confident about next week against the Wildcats. They beat us during the regular season and they’ll be ready to play us but we will be ready as well,” he said.
As for Cobras’ head coach Jean Côté, he thought his players weren’t ready to face the Lions after having defeated the 10-0 Lasalle Warriors last week.
“We beat Lasalle in an emotional game last week with 45 seconds to go and I think my players were simply satisfied to have accomplished that. To beat a team that was 10-0 during the season was hard to come back from emotionally,” he said.
