L’Association de football de l’Ile Bizard Inc., “Vikings”, recently opened activities for the 2012 season by hosting a late afternoon gala to honour participants and volunteers of the 2011 season.  All players from the 2011 season received team trophies and photos of their respective teams as well as a pizza lunch. In addition several players from the Atom, Mosquito and Peewee teams were selected for most valuable players’ awards in various categories. In Atom (a provincial champion team) they were: Shawn Valentine, Yannick Cyr, Simon Senecal, Benjamin Morasse, Jules Nadeau and Charles Oliver Talbot.  In Mosquito, Jacob Perrault, Alexis Ferland, William Harpin, Charles Thibodeau and Nick Giannopolos were chosen. Those selected in the regional finalist Peewee division team were Bruno Senechal, Antoine Lemire, Cordell Ramsay, Charles Libersan, Josh Fairholm and Tristian Quiron.  Association President Théo Giannopoulos said eighteen players will graduate from this year’s Peewee team.  Also leaving he said are the Peewee team head coach Jeff Fairholm along with his assistants, Martin Lemire, Derrick Correa, Nancy Drouin (team manager) as well as Robin Bell. The athlete’s will be free as per football Quebec regulations, to try out for Bantam teams in any other association. Ile Bizard does not presently have a Bantam age club and in 2011 a dozen or so Vikings graduates opted to play in the Lakeshore association. Among the prime catches for interested Bantam Clubs on the West Island include among others QB Josh Fairholm and star running backs Tristan Quirion and Cordell Ramsay as well as head coach Jeff Fairholm. Later in the week Michael Burgess the program Director of “Premier Football Academy” confirmed that coach Fairholm would be joining his staff as a coach.  “We are certainly privileged to have him” said Burgess whose Academy is part of the local Sports Étude Program. Giannopoulos says the Association will soon hold spring indoor camps. For info: 514-792-2876.
