Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School (PCHS) will host the interscholastic indoor soccer provincial championships for the juvenile level organized by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) from Apr. 1 to 3. Four hundred soccer players aged 15 to 17 from all over Quebec will gather up at PCHS and Riverdale High School where the matches will be held.
The girls and boys teams will arrive at PCHS Friday afternoon and will stay at the school over the weekend. Fourteen RSEQ regions will be represented 32 teams of the juvenile level. Provincial championships for other levels of competition will be held elsewhere in Quebec around the same dates. The Greater Montreal Athletic Association (GMAA), the sports association which serves the English-speaking schools from East Montreal to Hudson will be represented by two teams from the Vincent Massey Collegiate School.
The boys and the girls’ PCHS squads will be acting as host teams for the event even though they did not qualify for the tournament prior to the event. PCHS’ boys’ team coach Alex Navarrete feels his team is nonetheless ready to take on the whole of the province next weekend.
“We didn’t play in the qualifying tournament because we were going to be hosting but we won the GMAA outdoor tournament recently. I think we’ve trained hard enough to obtain good results at the tournament next weekend. We went 7-1 this year so I’m fairly confident,” he said.
