Indoor track season wraps up

No less than 11 West Island track athletes captured medals at the two events, including Hacheming Baptiste, Alexander Rossi and William Lacoste in cadet boys, Jason Charbonneau, Charles-Emmanuel Charbonneau and Marc-Olivier Charbonneau in juvenile boys, Frederic Hanna in minime boys, Caroline Lesage, Kirsten Frantz and Tina Anja Andriamanantena in minime girls along with Katelynd Campo and Allison Frantz in benjamin girls. “This was a great season for West Island Track Club, with many athletes establishing significant new personal bests for the indoor season,” said club head coach Paul Charron. “Among them were new athletes participating for the first time, beginning with West Island Track’s youngest, Emily Brotman, Samantha Frantz, Ryan Brotman, and Cole Brillinger.

Selects capture provincial title

The Lac St. Louis Selects bantam AA girls’ hockey team became the 29th area team, including 24 boys’ and three girls’ all-star squads, to capture a coveted Dodge Cup provincial championship last weekend in Saguenay Lac St. Jean /Cote-Nord. The Selects defeated the Laurentides Pioneers 2-1 in Sunday evening’s final. This was the second year the Lac St. Louis Hockey Association decided to send club teams to the Dodge Cup, instead of all-star squads, and the second consecutive year a girls’ AA team captured the blue banner. The midget AA Selects turned the trick last year. Four other girls’ teams participated in the four-day tournament, including the peewee AA Lac St. Louis Elites, which lost 3-0 to Richelieu in the semifinal and the junior A Dollard des Ormeaux/Pierrefonds Marquis, which lost 4-2 to the Chaudière Etchemin also in the semifinal. On the boys’ side, the peewee AA Deux Rives Dauphins advanced to Sunday morning’s semifinal, only to drop a 2-1 decision to the Beaubourg Seigneurs.
