From last Friday afternoon until Sunday, Wimgym’s girls put in consistently stellar performances at the Quebec Provincial Championships.
Gymnasts aged 8 to 18 travelled from across the province to Acro-Gym in Longueuil competing from provincial level 2 to the national level.
The Dorval gym’s team had been training 16 to 25 hours a week preparing for this meet and their hard work paid off. Wimgym is sending Sabrina Tomassini and Katerina Jirasek to the National Championships in Hamilton June 1 to 6. Meanwhile, Olivia Hannan and Tess Armstrong will represent Quebec at the Eastern Championships after placing first All Around in P4 Novice and second All Around in P3 Tyro, respectively. Maria Guirguis placed third All Around at the Pre-Novice National level.
At the P2 level, Wimgym’s Emily Lyver swung into first place on the bars in the Novice category while Lauren Pugsley competed on the beam and placed first in the Tyro category. The rest of the Tyro team leapt over, above and onto the podium with Lauren Mallais-De Luca coming in first on both the Bars and the Floor while Beatrice Quirion landed in first place on the vault. Both girls shared the silver medal for All Around. Brittany Teo stood atop the podium with gold around her neck after placing first All Around. Two of the gym’s youngest competitors were Maude Lebeau, second All Around in Argo, and her team-mate Audrey Levesque, who placed fourth All Around.
