Last Thursday evening, Montreal City Hall was transformed into a big reception hall for the occasion of revealing the winners of the 2008 photo contest, 'Objective: Beautify Montreal.'
This year, 2,000 photographs were entered in the contest and posted online – that’s 500 more photos than last year. More than 2600 votes were registered throughout the course of the contest, with the public choosing a winning photo from each borough.
“We received remarkable photos that made it difficult for the judges to decide,” said Jean Touchette, director of business development at Transcontinental.
The 57 selected photos are now on display in the Hall of Honour at Montreal City Hall, until Sept. 21. All of the winners received an enlarged and laminated version of their photos, while top prize recipients won a Miele bicycle, courtesy of Ici Sport in St. Leonard.
“Through these photos, I saw that Montrealers love their city and they showed it with a lot of enthusiasm! It’s beautiful,” said Marcel Tremblay, member of the executive committee in charge of citizen services.
This third edition of the photography contest – which ran from June 1 to July 31 – was presented in partnership with Transcontinental Media.
