Dollard des Ormeaux resident Jonathan Drouin has earned himself a spot on Team Canada's world junior team that will seek to reclaim the tournament's gold medal when it journeys to Russia over the holidays.
Drouin joins fellow Halifax Moosehead forward Nathan MacKinnon as 17-year-olds on the team; the pair join Wade Redden (1995) and Sidney Crosby (2005) as recent 17-year-olds that have made the under-20 squad.
Drouin, who played his Midget AAA hockey with the Lac St. Louis Lions, left the team in midseason last year to join the Mooseheads as a midseason call-up, and had intrigued scouts so much with his play thus far in the 2012-2013 season that his name has entered discussion as a potential number-one-overall draft choice in 2013.
